Oatlands Primary School is seeking a reliable, proactive and self-motivated School Caretaker to ensure that the school premises are safe, secure, clean and well maintained. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the school and in maintaining a welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the Caretaker will include, but are not limited to:
General care, maintenance and upkeep of the school building, grounds, gardens, fixtures and fittings.
Carrying out minor repairs and routine maintenance as required.
General grounds maintenance, including grass cutting and ensuring outdoor areas are clean, tidy and safe.
Ensuring that hazards, including ice, leaves and litter, are cleared promptly and that pathways and external areas are maintained in a safe condition at all times.
Monitoring the condition of the school premises and reporting maintenance issues requiring attention to the Principal.
Liaising with the Principal and Board of Management regarding maintenance requirements and repair works.
Liaising with tradespeople and contractors working on site, including plumbers, electricians and building contractors, where appropriate.
Managing the disposal of rubbish, ensuring bins are presented for collection and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the school premises.
Ordering and monitoring stock levels of cleaning products and maintenance supplies.
Moving furniture, equipment and other school resources to and from storage as required.
Assisting in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, safety and presentation throughout the school.
Complying fully with all school policies and procedures.
Carrying out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role as directed by the Principal.
The successful candidate will:
Have experience in general maintenance, caretaking, facilities management or a related area.
Be capable of carrying out minor maintenance and repair work.
Be reliable, trustworthy and able to work on their own initiative.
Have good organisational and communication skills.
Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming school environment.
Be willing to comply with all school policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
Garda Vetting and a Fitness to Work declaration will be required prior to appointment.
It is a requirement to hold a valid Statutory Declaration and to complete the Form of Undertaking for this position upon offer of employment.
Additional Information
This position is funded through the Department of Education Ancillary Services Grant Scheme and is subject to the continued availability of funding under the scheme.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a probationary period in accordance with the terms and conditions of their contract of employment.
