Scoil Mhuire, S.N. Baile an Bhuitléirigh (Butlerstown N.S.) is a vertical co-educational primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Most Rev Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan DD.
We seek an Administrative Principal Teacher who will lead a dedicated and collaborative staff, and who will work closely with the Board of Management, the In-School Management Team, parents/guardians of our pupils, the wider school community and external agencies, to ensure the continued development and success of this excellent educational establishment.

The present teaching staff comprises: 1 Administrative Principal, 1 Deputy Principal, 3 AP2, post holders ,10 Mainstream Class Teachers, 1 Special Class Teacher, 5 Special Education Teachers (full time and part-time) and we also have 9 Special Needs’ Assistants.

The role will commence on January 6th 2027.

The appointment process will be governed by the terms of Department of Education Circular 0044/2019, Chapter 4.

The roles and responsibilities of the post relate to the four domains of Leadership and Management set out in the Circular:
1. Leading Learning and Teaching
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
Applications are invited by post for the attention of the Chairperson of the Board of Management from teachers who are fully registered with the Teaching Council. Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a primary school in Ireland and hold a Certificate to teach Religion.

The appointment will be subject to Garda Vetting, satisfactory references, Occupational Health Screening and the approval of the Patron.

The successful candidate should demonstrate:
• A commitment to upholding the Catholic ethos, values and traditions of the school and to fostering the positive, collaborative and supportive learning environment that currently exists within the school community.
• A strong understanding of the Primary Curriculum and a clear and ambitious vision for high-quality teaching and learning.
• A strong commitment to inclusive and child-centred education.
• Proven leadership, organisational and administrative experience within a school setting, including policy development, strategic planning and school self-evaluation.
• Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative school-based initiatives.
• Strong leadership skills and commitment to work in partnership with the in-school management team in furthering the aims of the school.
• In-depth knowledge and experience of SET along with a commitment to inclusion and diversity.
• Excellent people management and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
• The capacity to empower staff and promote distributed leadership, professional learning and the use of school-based TPL to promote collaborative teaching across the school.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to school leadership.


It is a requirement to hold a valid Statutory Declaration and to complete the Form of Undertaking for this position upon offer of employment.
