Part-Time Caretaker.
Hours: 10 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 10.00am
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal and Board of Management and will play an important role in maintaining the school building and grounds in a safe, clean and well-maintained condition.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the Caretaker will include, but are not limited to:
• Opening the school premises each morning and ensuring the school is ready for the start of the school day.
• General care, maintenance and upkeep of the school building, grounds, fixtures and fittings.
• Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance as required.
• General grounds maintenance, including grass cutting and keeping external areas tidy and safe.
• Monitoring the general condition of the school premises and reporting any issues requiring attention.
• Liaising with tradespeople and contractors as directed by the Principal.
• Assisting with the safe operation and monitoring of heating and other school services.
• Disposal of rubbish and general upkeep of the school premises.
• Ensuring that the school environment is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, safety and presentation.
• Carrying out other reasonable duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Principal.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently, demonstrate initiative and have a practical, flexible and responsible approach to the role.
Confidentiality, discretion and professionalism are essential. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently, respect the working environment of the school and minimise unnecessary interruptions to teaching staff.
Essential / Desirable Attributes
The successful candidate should:
• Have practical maintenance skills and/or relevant experience.
• Be capable of carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance.
• Be reliable, conscientious and trustworthy.
• Be capable of working independently and using initiative.
• Have good organisational and communication skills.
• Have an awareness of health and safety requirements.
• Be willing to respond flexibly to the operational needs of the school where reasonably required.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities involved in working in a primary school environment.
• Support and respect the ethos of the school.
Previous experience in a caretaker, maintenance or similar role would be advantageous.
The position is subject to the continued availability of funding under the Department of Education's Ancillary Services Grant Scheme.
The appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, Garda Vetting, completion of the required statutory declarations and any other pre-employment requirements applicable to the position.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a probationary period in accordance with the terms of their contract of employment.
