The Board of Management of Scoil Mhuire, Magherarney a co-educational school under the under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Clogher, Bishop Larry Duffy, invites applications for the position of Teaching Principal, commencing on the 5th of October 2026.
Scoil Mhuire is a vibrant and inclusive school committed to providing a high-quality, holistic education for all pupils. The Principal will lead a dedicated and collaborative staff and will work closely with the Board of Management, parents and the wider school community to ensure the continued development and success of the school. The school currently consists of four mainstream teachers (teaching principal included), two SET teachers and two SNAs.
The roles and responsibilities of the post relate to the four domains of Leadership and Management as outlined in Circular 0044/2019.
• Leading teaching and learning
• Managing the Organisation
• Leading School Development
• Developing Leadership Capacity
Applicants must be fully registered (Route 1) with the Teaching Council and have at least five years teaching experience in a recognised Primary School in Ireland. The successful candidate will have a recognised qualification to teach Religious Education in a Catholic primary school, as well as a commitment to lead and strengthen the Catholic ethos of the school.
They must also demonstrate:
• A clear and ambitious vision for high-quality teaching and learning and in depth curricular knowledge.
• A strong commitment to inclusive and child-centred education.
• A commitment to upholding the Catholic Ethos and values of the school.
• Proven Leadership and Management within a school setting with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• A proven capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team with staff, parents, pupils, Board of Management and the wider school community.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development, particularly in relation to school leadership.
• Previous experience in policy formulation and implementation.
• Experience in school improvement planning, school self-evaluation and policy development.
• Understanding and knowledge of the requirements associated with the provision of Special Educational Needs, inclusion and diversity.
The appointment will be subject to Garda Vetting and it is a requirement to hold a valid Statutory Declaration and to complete the Form of Undertaking for this position. Also required are documentary evidence of educational qualifications, satisfactory references (please provide three with contact numbers), Occupational Health Screening and the approval of the Patron.
• A minimum of three valid applications is required for the competition to proceed.
