Carysfort National School is seeking enthusiastic, flexible and highly motivated Special Needs Assistants who are committed to supporting pupils with significant care needs and promoting their participation, inclusion, independence and wellbeing within the school community.
The successful candidates will work as part of a collaborative and professional team and may be assigned to any SNA role within the school, including mainstream classes and the school's Autism Class, in accordance with the needs of the pupils and at the discretion of the Principal.
The duties of the post are subject to the provisions of Department of Education Circular 0032/2026 – The Role of Special Needs Assistants in Recognised Primary, Post-Primary and Special Schools and may include supporting pupils with care needs, facilitating participation in learning and school activities, promoting independence, supporting communication and social interaction, assisting with personal care and mobility needs, and contributing to a safe and inclusive school environment.
These appointments are subject to NCSE allocation and review arrangements and may be adjusted in accordance with Department of Education and NCSE requirements.
Appointments are subject to:
• Current Garda Vetting requirements
• Occupational Health Screening
• Satisfactory references
• Compliance with Children First procedures and all relevant Department of Education requirements
The following experience, skills and attributes are desirable:
• Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a range of additional needs in mainstream and/or special class settings.
• Experience supporting pupils with sensory, communication, behavioural, emotional, medical and significant care needs.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
• The ability to work effectively and professionally with school staff, parents and external agencies.
• A commitment to promoting pupil dignity, independence, inclusion and wellbeing.
• A relevant QQI Level 6 qualification is desirable.
Successful candidates will be expected to engage in ongoing Continuing Professional Development and undertake training relevant to the needs of the pupils and the school.
