The Board of Management of St. Patrick's National School, O'Callaghan's Mills, under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Killaloe, invites applications from suitably qualified
candidates for the permanent post of Teaching Principal Teacher, with duties commencing on September 1st 2026.
O' Callaghan's Mills is an inclusive, and welcoming co-educational primary school, committed to fostering a nurturing, supportive, and child-centered learning environment where every single pupil
is encouraged to reach their full potential.
The successful candidate will be expected to work closely in cooperation with the Board of Management, staff, parents, and the wider school community to ensure the continued development and success of the school.
The appointment process will be governed by the terms of Circular 0044/2019.
The roles and responsibilities for the post relate directly to the four domains of leadership and management as set out in Circular 0044/2019 and “Looking at our Schools 2022: A Quality Framework for Primary Schools and Special Schools”:
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:-
A strong understanding of, and a clear commitment to, upholding the Catholic ethos, values, and traditions of the school.-
Proven leadership, administrative, and management experience within a primary school setting, along with excellent interpersonal, communication, and people-management skills.-
knowledge and experience in the area of special educational needs, together with a strong commitment to inclusion in education.
- A thorough knowledge understanding of the Primary School Curriculum, and of effective teaching and learning practices in a primary school setting.
- Experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative school-based projects and policies.
- A proven ability to build and sustain positive, collaborative relationships with staff, pupils, parents, the Board of Management, and external agencies.
- Evidence of continuing professional development, most particularly in the line of school leadership.
Applicants are required to have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a Primary School in Ireland.
It is a requirement to hold a Recognised Certificate to Teach Religious Education.
The appointment will be subject to Garda Vetting, satisfactory references (please provide three with contact numbers), Occupational Health Screening, and the approval of the Patron.-
A minimum of three valid applications is required for the competition to proceed.
