The Board of Management of Kilmurry McMahon National School invites applications for the position of Deputy Principal. This is a permanent teaching and leadership position which will be filled through open competition in accordance with Circular 0044/2019. Kilmurry McMahon National School is a Catholic primary school operating under the patronage of the Bishop of Killaloe.
The Deputy Principal holds a key leadership role within the school and will work in partnership with the Principal to support the effective leadership, organisation and day-to-day management of the school. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Principal, staff, Board of Management and the wider school community in fostering a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all pupils. The Deputy Principal will deputise for the Principal in their absence when required.
The Deputy Principal will also have responsibility for teaching in a multi-grade classroom setting. Applicants must hold a recognised qualification to teach Religious Education.
The responsibilities of the role will reflect the four domains of Leadership and Management as set out in Looking at Our School 2022: A Quality Framework for Primary Schools and Special Schools:
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The following skills, experience and knowledge are desirable:
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a school team.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including policy development and implementation.
• Previous teaching experience across a range of class levels, particularly within a multi-grade setting.
• Experience in mentoring and supporting newly qualified teachers, including engagement with the Droichead process, would be desirable.
• Experience and willingness to lead whole-school initiatives.
• A commitment to work with and support the Principal towards a shared vision for high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in the school.
• Strong ICT skills and an interest in supporting and developing digital learning within the school.
• Ability to work collaboratively with all staff members and the wider school community.
• A clear understanding of and respect for the ethos of a Catholic primary school.
• Commitment to ongoing continuous professional development.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be fully registered with the Teaching Council under Route 1 – Primary.
Appointment will be subject to, but not limited to, satisfactory references, current and continuing Teaching Council registration, current Garda Vetting requirements and Occupational Health screening.

A minimum of 3 valid applications is required for the competition to proceed.
