The Board of Management of St. Laserian’s School invites applications for the position of Deputy Principal (Administrative). This appointment will be made through open competition and in accordance with the requirements of Primary Circular 0044/2019.
This is a permanent position.
St. Laserian’s School is a Catholic school under the patronage of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. Our school community is founded on a strong Catholic ethos where every person is equally valued, and everybody belongs.
St. Laserian’s School caters for students assessed as having mild, moderate, severe to profound learning disabilities. Many of our learners are autistic and many present with complex physical, sensory and additional care needs. We are seeking a passionate and visionary leader with a strong commitment to special education and inclusive practice.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• A passion and commitment to special education
• A deep understanding of inclusive, child-centred educational practice
• Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
• A commitment to fostering positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider school community
• A commitment to promoting pupil and staff wellbeing
• An understanding of trauma-informed practice and nurture-based approaches
• A commitment to leading and promoting student voice, creativity and a culture of learning as part of our Changemaker School Network membership
• The capacity to support and lead high staff numbers within a collaborative leadership structure
• A strong understanding of the evolving landscape of special education and the ability to respond effectively to change
Essential Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:
• A minimum of five years’ teaching experience in a special educational setting
• Experience of management and administration through appointment in a school leadership team
• Knowledge and understanding of School Self-Evaluation and the national quality framework for primary and post-primary schools, Looking at Our School (LAOS)
• Up-to-date knowledge of current legislation and policy relating to special education
• Knowledge and understanding of the curricula delivered within the school:
o Primary Curriculum
o Junior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 Learning Programmes
o Senior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 Programmes
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of positive behaviour support approaches and the ability to respond appropriately and effectively to behaviours that challenge
• Evidence of continuing professional development
The successful candidate should also demonstrate:
• A high level of understanding of the important role parents play in the education of children with additional needs
• An understanding of the role of St. Laserian’s School within the local and wider community
• Dedication, professionalism and a collaborative leadership style
The core function of the Deputy Principal’s role is to act or deputise as the Principal in the Principal’s absence.
