An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

Special Needs Assistant for St. Ita's and St. Joseph's Special School, Balloonagh, Tralee, Co. Kerry, under the Patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Kerry. The posts are as follows:
2 fixed term posts to cover job shares
3 maternity leave posts
St. Ita’s and St. Joseph’s Primary and Post-Primary Special School is designated as a special school for students 5-18 years of age who have been assessed as being in the Mild General Learning Disability Range. SISJ is a 19 Teacher School (+ 5 subject specialist teachers) with 35 SNAs.
Many of our students have additional needs such as Autism,
ADHD, Down syndrome, Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs and /or Behaviours of concern. Experience of working in a special school environment and/or with students with Autism would be desirable and beneficial but not essential. Experience of working with students who present with behaviours of concern would also be desirable but not essential. Primary aged students follow the Primary curriculum while Post Primary pupils students follow the Level 1 or
Level 2 Junior Cycle programme as well as the Senior Cycle Level 1 & Level 2 programme and the Leaving Cert Applied programme.
Experience/skills in working with special needs, Autism, TEACCH, Lámh, behaviours of concern, and experience in accommodating pupils with complex medical needs, are not essential but would be beneficial.
The initial duties of the post may change according to the care needs of the pupils. If applicable, SNAs should include the Panel Form 1, if it has been issued by your previous employer. The appointment will be subject to current vetting requirements, confirmation of the PF1 form details (if applicable); confirmation of qualifications and occupational health screening.
