Additional Information:
The Board of Management of Dominican College, Taylor’s Hill, Galway, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Guidance Counsellor to join our team. Our school prides itself on fostering a positive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
This contract is for 11 hours per week and has arisen due a job-sharing arrangement. It will commence on 27th August 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver a comprehensive Guidance Programme in line with national frameworks and guidelines.
• Provide individual counselling and support to students in areas of personal, social, educational, and vocational development.
• Assist students in the subject and programme choice process, including transitions from Junior Cycle to Senior Cycle and to further/higher education.
• Provide up-to-date information and guidance on career planning, CAO, UCAS, apprenticeships, and alternative pathways.
• Work collaboratively with school management, teaching staff, and external agencies in supporting student wellbeing.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with school policy and GDPR regulations.
• Contribute to the school’s Wellbeing Programme and Student Support Team.
• Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the whole-school planning process.
Essential Requirements:
• A recognised teaching qualification in Guidance Counselling.
• Current registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland, with Guidance Counselling recognised as a subject.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a school setting.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
• A genuine commitment to student wellbeing and inclusive education.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
• Experience working in a post-primary guidance counselling role.
• Familiarity with CAO, UCAS, and FE pathways.
• Experience working with vulnerable or at-risk students.
• Training in mental health and wellbeing supports.
