Scoil Íosa, Carracastle is a vertical, co-educational school under the patronage of the Catholic Diocese of Achonry. The present teaching staff is made up of four class teachers and one SEN teacher.
The role of deputy principal is a permanent position appointed through open competition and will align with the four domains of leadership and management as outlined in Looking at Our School 2022 and Circular 0044/2019:
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
This is a key leadership role, offering an opportunity to work in partnership with the principal to support the effective management and development of the school.
In line with the above domains, the duties attached to the role involve responsibility for whole school curricular development, policy development, day to day management of resources and staff and long-term strategic planning.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
-A commitment to the Catholic ethos of the school.
-Leadership capacity with experience in policy development and implementation, along with a clear vision for leading high-quality teaching and learning, and experience of developing and implementing school initiatives.
-A willingness to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with the principal and other staff members, Board of Management, parents/guardians and the wider school community and an ability to liaise with external agencies and support services.
- A strong commitment to the further development of inclusive education and to the promotion of positive behavioural strategies, pastoral care and wellbeing throughout the school.
- Lead School Self-Evaluation (SSE) processes and ensure alignment with Department of Education guidelines.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Fully registered with the Teaching Council (Route 1-Primary)
2. Minimum of five years recognised teaching experience
3. The successful candidate must hold a certificate to teach religion in a Catholic school and be prepared to uphold and promote the ethos, values and traditions of the school.
