1 CANDIDATE PROFILE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
Marino Institute of Education (MIE) is offering part-time teaching hours to a person with expertise in the area of the teaching of physical education (PE) in primary school. MIE is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic person to teach modules specific to the area of Physical Education on initial teacher education programmes, specifically the Bachelor in Education (Primary), B.Ed. The appointee may also be required to teach on the B.Sc in Early Childhood Education.

Commitment to high-quality teaching and learning in a student-centred environment is important. Enthusiasm for a multi-disciplinary environment is desired. The person appointed must exhibit evidence of strong commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and assessment. The role is particularly suited to teachers registered with the Teaching Council who may be interested in career break arrangements or those wishing to experience a higher education teaching environment.

Essential Qualifications & Skills (i.e. those, without which, a candidate would not be able to do the job. Applications that have not clearly demonstrated that candidates possess the essential requirements will not be shortlisted):

To be considered for the teaching hours applicants will require:

• A teaching qualification at primary level recognised by, or eligible for recognition by, the Teaching Council of Ireland (Route 1).
• A postgraduate qualification at level 9 or above in education.
• 5 years of teaching experience, ideally across a wide range of class groups.
• Knowledge of contemporary developments in the field of physical education, including recent curricular developments in Ireland.
• Knowledge of teaching methods, innovative practice and collaborative teaching/learning.
• Competence in the use of technology for teaching, learning and professional development.

Candidates must clearly indicate in their applications how they meet each of these pre-requisites.

2. JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting Relationship
The person teaching the part-time hours is required to carry out the duties attached to the post, under the general direction of the Head of Department, to whom she/he reports, and to whom he/she is responsible for the performance of these duties in the first instance.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Teaching and assessment of modules on the undergraduate programmes (B.Ed., B.SC. in Early Childhood Education).
• Promotion of innovative teaching, learning and assessment among students
• Promote the seven guiding principles of the trustees

3. APPLICATION, SELECTION PROCESS AND OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION.

Method of Selection for Recommendation
A shortlisting of applicants will occur which will be based on the applicant’s qualifications, suitability and relevant work experience as detailed in the application. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all relevant information is included in their application and that they clearly identify how they meet the specified candidate criteria. The candidate will be interviewed by at least two people appropriately qualified to assess the capability of candidates

Candidates must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required.

Garda Vetting
All successful applicants may be required to participate in Garda vetting. Specific instructions on this process will be given at the appropriate time. Applicants who do not comply with the Institute’s requirements in this regard will be excluded from consideration for appointment.

Essential Training
The successful applicant will be required to undertake the following essential compliance training: Orientation, Health & Safety and Data Protection (GDPR), must provide evidence of completion of Tusla Child Protection Training. Other training may need to be undertaken when required.
