An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

The successful applicant will work under the guidance and direction of the school principal and class teacher.

Applicants for the position must demonstrate:
1. An excellent understanding of the role of the Special Needs Assistant, as per Circular 30/2014 from the Department of Education;
2. An excellent understanding of the role of the Special Needs Assistant in the context of addressing the specific care needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs, as per Circular 30/2014 from the Department of Education;
3. Experience of working with pupils with different Special Educational Needs, specifically Autism;
4. An understanding of the importance of flexibility and teamwork within different Special Education settings across the school i.e Autism class settings and mainstream class settings;
5. An ongoing commitment to availing of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
