Please read to the end! Sligo School Project is an urban DEIS Band 1 multi-denomination school under independent patronage, affiliated to Educate Together.

We wish to fill the post of principal teacher. This is a permanent post, starting on 1st of September.

We are looking for a passionate educator, a person who is keen to take on the challenge of a position of responsibility. As the principal of Sligo School Project, you need to be able and willing to both, provide guidance to and be part of a successful team with an already established tradition of collaboration beyond status driven role interpretations.

We have developed a unique learning environment that caters for a highly diverse school population. The incoming principal needs to be able and willing to engage with children and families from all social backgrounds.

The school follows a concept of multi-grade classes. Our teaching is heavily oriented towards differentiation. Children are afforded multiple opportunities to take part in activities across age groups, and to follow their own interests and talents. As the principal in our school you need to be able and willing to maintain this concept and guide incoming staff in its practical application.

If you have a creative streak, a distinct sense of humour, if you like the quirky, the children with two different colour socks, if you feel comfortable in the presence of people who don't feel comfortable in the presence of formula and status driven others, if you have kept the child in yourself alive ... AND ... if you are at the same time steadfast in your adulthood, if you are able and willing to look at yourself in the mirror of critical reflection, if you see further potential for your self-development, if education is more for you than simply a means to get an income, if you like yourself and you like what you are doing, if you are eager to shape the world into something better than its current state ... then we would encourage you to apply for this position.

For the avoidance of doubt, we are not interested in entertaining applications of people who see this post as a chance for a brief interim period and a stepping stone on their career ladder.

We prefer matter over form, a woolly jumper fits better at our school than a suit, while at the same time clear heads fit better than woolly thoughts.
