PRIMARY TEACHER SECONDMENT POSTS IN THE EUROPEAN SCHOOLS

The Department of Education invites applications from suitably qualified teachers who are fully registered with the Teaching Council, for secondment to the following posts in the European Schools commencing 01 September, 2025. At the conclusion of the interview process, a panel of successful applicants will be created based on the ranking of applicants. The positions advertised below will be offered according to the ranking of successful applicants. The panel will remain in place until 01 September 2025 and will be used to fill the advertised positions.
Primary Teacher Secondments European School Primary cycle (age 6 - 10)
Alicante Two positions
Brussels II (Woluwe/Evere) One position
Luxembourg II Two positions (special education experience/ special
education qualifications desirable)
Frankfurt One position
Mol One position (special education experience/ special education
qualifications desirable)
Varese One position
Candidates for Primary Teacher Seconded Posts must:
• Have a recognised primary teaching qualification
• Have at least three years’ satisfactory service as a primary teacher in a primary school in Ireland subsequent to full registration with the Teaching Council
• Be serving as a teacher in a recognised primary school in Ireland (or be on secondment or career break from such a position)
• Have proficiency in Irish Additional pre-requisites for primary seconded posts:
Applicants for secondment to the ES system undergo a separate oral language assessment in a vehicular language (French or German) or host country language in which the European school is located. Knowledge of the language of the country in the place of employment is particularly desirable. Applicants are requested
to indicate their general level of spoken competence in their chosen language as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The three levels referenced in the CEFR are basic user, independent user and proficient user.
Applicants will be assessed according to the level they have indicated on their application form. For appointment to a European School, a basic spoken competence in the candidate’s selected language is usually expected. However, if a candidate excels in every other respect at interview and commits to learning a vehicular or the host country language during their secondment to the school, that will be looked upon favourably.
Salary, allowances, pension and secondment term:
Teachers receive a salary paid by the Department of Education, that is pensionable under the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. A European salary paid by the European Schools supplements this. Details of remuneration and allowances for teachers are available on the European Schools’ website www.eursc.eu.
Each seconded teacher position in the European Schools is a secondment for a maximum term of nine years.
