St Francis Xavier Junior National School is Co-educational Catholic Primary School situated in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. St Francis Xavier JNS is a Junior School with classes from Junior Infants to Second Class and one Autism Class. The school has a Catholic ethos and is under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin, Dermot Farrell. The Board of Management of St Francis Xavier Junior National School invites applications for the position of Administrative Principal. This is a permanent position, commencing on 14th October 2024 and the appointment will be made via open competition under the terms of Circular 0044/2019.
In St Francis Xavier Junior National School, our vision is that “children and staff work together to realise their full potential in a safe, happy and stimulating environment. We hope to provide the foundations for lifelong learning and for the children to become respectful, active members of society.” This vision is supported by a hard-working, dynamic, caring and professional staff who focus on pupils’ wellbeing and development. The staff currently comprises of Principal, Deputy Principal, 16 Mainstream Teaching Posts, 1 Autism Class Teaching Post, 7 Support Teaching Posts, 7.49 SNA Posts, and 5 Ancillary Staff (covering secretarial, caretaking and cleaning duties).
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria: Fully registered under Route 1 (Primary) with the Teaching Council and have 5 years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a recognised primary school within the Republic of Ireland.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities for this position relate to the four domains of Leadership and Management, taken from ‘Looking at our School, 2022: A Quality framework for Primary Schools and Special Schools’.

4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The following skills, knowledge, experience and competencies are desirable:
~ An excellent level of understanding and knowledge of school leadership, management and administration in a primary school setting.
~ An understanding of and commitment to Francis Xavier Junior National School’s ethos and the school’s Catholic ethos and an ability to support and promote school/parish links
~ An understanding of School Self-Evaluation and long-term strategic planning for the development of the school.
~ Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with all staff members, Board of Management, parents/ guardians and the wider school community.
~ A commitment to shared leadership and a willingness to delegate and develop leadership capacity and empower others
~ Excellent communication skills
~ An in-depth knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and a range of teaching experience
~ Understanding and knowledge of the requirements associated with the provision of Special Education Needs, inclusion and diversity
