An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
St Mary’s Special School is located in Navan Co Meath. It educates children between 4- 18 years of age who present and have a diagnosis of moderate, severe and profound General Learning Disabilities, as well as, children with ASD and complex needs. St Mary’s also provides education to children who have complex medical needs.
We are currently recruiting a full time permanent SNA position. Please apply in writing to The Chairperson of the Board of Management - St Mary’s Special School. Johnstown, Navan Co Meath. Please mark “SNA position” on the envelope.
Please see below the Essential Criteria required for the post:
1. A level 3 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications, OR
2. A minimum of three grade Ds in the Junior Certificate, OR
3. Equivalent.
Desirable criteria but not essential:
1. An appropriate SNA course.
2. Previous experience working for at least 1 year within a special school or ASD Unit is desirable.
3.. Courses relevant to Special education: PECS, Lamh (level 1)
4. Basic computer skills
5. First Aid certificate- in date
6. Manual Lifting and handling Certificate- in date
7. Administration of Buccal Midazolam course - in date
General description of the duties:
- Assistance with moving and lifting of children, operation of hoists and equipment
-Assistance with toileting and intimate care.
- PEG feeding
-Enabling curriculum access for pupils with physical disabilities or sensory needs and those with significant, and identified behavioural difficulties
- To participate in the preparation of teaching materials
-Assist teachers to support children with behavioural needs
-Administration of emergency Medication
-Assistance with Mobility and Orientation
-Assist teachers to provide supervision in the class, playground and school grounds
-Non-nursing care needs associated with specific medical conditions
-Care needs requiring frequent interventions including withdrawal of a pupil from a classroom when essential

Applicants who are deemed to be members of the SNA SUPPLEMENTARY PANEL, with supplementary panel rights, must furnish a certified copy of a completed PF1 Form with their

Please note that The Board shall obtain from the successful candidate, prior to appointment, a certificate of medical fitness that he/she is fit to undertake the duties of the post
