The Board of Management of St. Ita's N.S. invites applications for the position of Deputy Principal. This is a permanent, teaching, Deputy Principal post and the appointment will be made via open competition.
St. Ita's N.S. National School has a Catholic ethos and is under the Patronage of the Bishop of Clonfert. The successful candidate must hold a recognised qualification to teach religion and a commitment to promoting the Catholic ethos. A copy of this qualification must accompany the application.
St. Ita's National School has a dedicated and caring staff who work in a collaborative manner to create a positive school environment for all our pupils.
Circular 0044/2019 states: 'While the Principal is ultimately responsible to the Board of Management, as appropriate, for the leadership and management of the school, the Deputy Principal occupies a position of vital importance within the senior leadership team in a school. The Deputy Principal co-operates with the Principal in the fulfilment of the Principal's role and acts or deputises as the Principal in the Principal's absence'.
In accordance with Circular 0049 / 2019 it should be noted that as the needs of the school continuously evolve, a review of duties may result in reassignment of the role and responsibilities within the leadership and management team.
The Deputy Principal will work with the Principal and In-School Leadership Team to support and develop effective leadership within the school.
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria: Fully registered under Route 1 (Primary) with the Teaching Council and have 5 years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a recognised primary school in the Republic of Ireland.
The following skills, experience and knowledge are desirable:
Proven leadership skills including policy development and implementation and prioritising, planning and organising the workload.
Evidence of working as an effective team member.
An understanding of School Self-Evaluation (SSE) policy development and implementation.
Effective interpersonal, communication and people management skills.
A clear understanding and knowledge of special education, inclusive education and diversity in education.
A commitment to supporting and promoting the values, vision and Catholic ethos of our school.
An ability to work with staff and outside agencies to promote pupil wellbeing and provide children with the knowledge, skills and competencies to help them deal with challenges.
A proven ability to work collaboratively with all staff members, Board of Management and the wider community.
