The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) was set up to improve the delivery of education services to persons with special educational needs (SEN) arising from disabilities. The Council was first established in December 2003.
The NCSE is an independent civil service body under the aegis of the Department of Education (DoE). The Headquarters of the NCSE is located in Trim, Co. Meath and it has 30 local offices throughout the State.
Currently the NCSE support services are delivered through our regional teams comprising:
• Special Educational Needs Organisers (SENOs) who interact with parents and schools in providing resources to support children with special education needs;
• Advisors who provide continuing professional development (CPD) and in-school support to schools in the area of special educational needs;
• Visiting teachers (VTs) who provide support to children and young people who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Blind/Vision Impaired, their families and teachers;
• Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Behaviour Practitioners who provide CPD and in school support to schools to build school capacity to support students with special education needs;
• Head office and other personnel.
In addition to the above, the Department of Education is creating a new role of ISL Specialist Classroom Support (SCS) to provide intensive in-class communication support for individual students who meet specific criteria, that is students who were born without an auditory nerve or due to infection, disease, trauma or failed technology intervention (Cochlear Implants), their auditory nerve has ceased to function completely and require this level of additional specialist support.
NCSE is now seeking qualified applicants to fill a new ISL – Specialist Classroom Support role which has arisen in the following teams;

NCSE Regional Teams
• South West Team 1: Cork city and West Cork county
Please note that the successful candidate will be seconded from the NCSE to work in a designated school.
