Eolas Breise:
St. Anthony's is a Special School catering for pupils ages 4 - 18 years old who have Mild/Moderate Intellectual Difficulties, alongside Autism, ADHD, Physical Disabilities, Sensory Impairments, EBD, or medical conditions.
The qualifications and conditions of service are as specified by the Department of Education and Skills. It would be desirable that the successful candidates would have completed an appropriate Special Needs Assistant Course and have the necessary skills and interest in working with pupils who have complex profiles and challenging needs.
There are THREE (3) SNA vacancies to fill:
• two (2) Permanent/Standard Part Time SNA posts (16 hours each per week) and
• one (1) long term leave substitute cover for a Fulltime SNA post (32 hours per week)
Candidates should indicate clearly on their application cover letter if they are applying for any one post or if they would like their application to be considered for all three posts.
Essential Criteria:
• Applicants must have experience of working in a special school/specialist setting specifically with pupils who have Intellectual, Physical, Sensory or Complex Difficulties, including Autism, physical and health care needs, and communication difficulties.
• Applicants must have up to date training in First Aid and Manual/Patient Handling Skills
• Applicants should have experience in managing care conditions of children with medical conditions such as epilepsy, peg-feeding or asthma, and experience assisting pupils with personal hygiene/toileting including use of specialised equipment such as hoists and wheelchairs.
• Applicants should have an understanding of ASD and strategies used such as TEACCH, Pecs, Social Stories, Visual Schedules
• Applicants must demonstrate their practical experience with the management of challenging behaviour and promotion of positive behaviour strategies.
• Applicants must have a willingness to participate in all school activities, work as part of a team and avail of further training. In addition to classroom-based work directed by the Class Teacher, duties include helping students with eating, intimate care, showering, dressing and accompanying pupils in the pool during swimming sessions, and assisting on other educational outings.
• Applicants who are on the SNA Supplementary Panel must submit a certified copy of the completed Panel Form PF1 with their application.
Appointment is subject to current Vetting requirements, Occupational Health Screening, completion of the online TUSLA Child Safeguarding Training and satisfactory references.
All SNA posts are subject to DES/NCSE review annually.
