An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
This SNA post is to provide communication support through Irish Sign Language (ISL)
The successful candidate must have sufficient proficiency in ISL and sufficient language skills to support the student's communication through ISL. Ideally the successful candidate will hold a qualification in Deaf Studies, ISL Teaching or ISL Interpreting.
Duties, will include the provision of ISL support to a specific student, and will include supporting the student’s communication with teachers, staff and other students.
This appointment requires somebody who demonstrates flexibility, is a team player, has a calm disposition, is confident in dealing with behaviours that challenge, is physically active, has supervision skills and shows initiative.
The following requirements are desirable:
-experience managing intimate care
-up to date training in Manual Handling and First Aid
Garda vetting and medical approval is required.
This position is that of SNA, Department of Education & Skills (DES) employee, with all usual SNA terms and conditions attached.
The successful candidate will be placed on the appropriate point of the SNA salary scale, having due regard to their qualifications and experience. This is an interim arrangement until such time as the provisions of the Irish Sign Language Act 2017 are implemented, which provides for a scheme for ISL support for students in recognised schools whose primary language is ISL.
Documented proficiency in ISL is essential for all applicants of this post.
