St Teresa’s Special school caters to children with moderate to severe and profound intellectual disabilities as well as to those with complex needs and autism. It has a highly trained staff dedicated to the children’s achievement of their full potential.
Experience working with children in a special school setting will be a distinct advantage for candidates considering the position. The ideal candidate will be energetic and have a determination to enable the children to be the best they can be. They will be able to demonstrate experience and understanding of classroom planning and have a competency in augmentative communication and assisted teaching technologies for pupils with intellectual disabilities. They will be able to show how they would lead a class team of SNAs. They will, also ideally, have experience in co-ordinating Individual Education Plans, working from behavioural support plans and manging challenging behaviour. The candidate will have experience working with TEACCH, Lámh, PECS . In date training in Manual Handling, FEDS, Studio 3 or MAPA would be an advantage.
