Cara Junior School is a catholic co-educational Special School designated for children aged 4-12 years with a dual diagnosis of ASD and an Intellectual Disability between the mild to moderate range.

Applicants must comply with the eligibility criteria for a Principalship as set out in Circular 02/02 from the Department of Education & Skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a full time staff of 13 teachers, 37 special needs assistants with additional part time staff members including 24 bus escorts, 3 cleaners, 2 caretakers and a school secretary.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate vision, management and leadership qualities and will enjoy working in a dynamic and challenging role in an environment of continuous learning, working in conjunction with the existing school team and external agencies.

Applicants should exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and have a good understanding of team building and the management of HR related issues. Applicants should demonstrate detailed knowledge of Special Needs Education, curriculum differentiation, management of challenging behaviour and the pedagogy associated with ASD specific methodologies.

Additional qualifications in and experience of special education, educational administration and management are highly desirable.
