The National Children’s Hospital School is committed to the provision of an appropriate learning environment within the hospital. The education provided will be determined by the age profile of the children attending (ranging from 4 to 18 years), allowing patients the opportunity to continue schooling whilst receiving their prescribed treatments. The role of the hospital school is to provide students access to high-quality education that is appropriate and holistic to the needs of each pupil. Pupils are facilitated in continuing their current programmes of education and in sitting their state examinations by providing exam centres. Religious education and faith formation will not be included. The dedicated school will incorporate a range of educational services in a stimulating environment that is conducive to learning. Additionally, schoolrooms will be provided in a number of the wards to cater for children unable to attend the main school due to clinical treatments.
This new school is under the patronage of City of Dublin ETB and appointed teachers will be employees of the City of Dublin ETB. The school will be a co-educational, multi-denominational school underpinned by the core ETB values of Excellence in Education, Care, Equality, Community and Respect. The curricular expression which underpins the ETB values will be taught in the school. For primary students this is Goodness Me, Goodness You, and for the post-primary students, Identify, Multi-Belief and Values Education.
The school is designated under primary schools and operates on the primary school hours and calendar year.
To qualify for appointment candidates must be able to comply with the following:
Vetting requirements
Occupational Health Screening.
Evidence of current Teaching Council Registration under the appropriate advertised route for one of the following subjects: SEN or Maths or English
Experience with working a Post-Primary Curriculum
An additional qualification and experience in working in Special Education is desirable
Experience teaching at various class levels in SET, Special Classes or Special Schools is desirable
An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within four months of the closure of this competition.
All vacancies are subject to Department of Education & Youth redeployment panels.
It is a requirement to hold a valid Statutory Declaration and to complete the Form of Undertaking for this position upon offer of employment.
