Additional Information:
St. Gabriel’s School is a special school catering for students aged 4–18 years who have a primary diagnosis of a complex physical disability, with or without associated complex medical needs. Many students also present with additional learning needs ranging from mild to severe and profound.
The school currently caters for 65 students. Primary-aged students follow the National Primary Curriculum, while post-primary students access Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle programmes through Level 1 and Level 2 Learning Programmes.
Our classes are supported by multidisciplinary teams, with most classrooms staffed by a teacher and up to three Special Needs Assistants. The school is committed to providing meaningful access to the curriculum for all students through a Total Communication approach, the use of assistive technology, and highly individualised teaching and learning programmes.
St. Gabriel’s School enjoys a close working relationship with the St. Gabriel’s Foundation, which provides on-site therapy and support services.
The Department of Education and Youth has allocated an additional 18 teaching hours per week to support the delivery of Physical Education and Home Economics. This allocation is reviewed annually.
Experience of teaching students with additional educational needs, working in a special school setting, leading and coordinating support teams, and contributing to student support planning will be considered highly desirable.
