Description of Position
St. Mary’s Specialist School invites applications for two Special Needs Assistant (SNA) positions.
St. Mary’s is a specialist setting catering for students with severe to profound and moderate intellectual disabilities, autism, and complex medical needs. The school will have an enrolment of 92 pupils in September 2026.
We are seeking enthusiastic, flexible, and committed SNAs to support students in accessing the curriculum and participating fully in school life. Successful candidates will work closely with class teachers and the wider school team to support pupils’ educational, social, behavioural, and care needs
Qualifications Required

Essential:
Experience working with children/young people in an educational or special education setting
Ability to work as part of a team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patient, caring, and flexible approach

Desirable:
QQI Level 6 Special Needs Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
Up-to-date First Aid certification
Manual Handling training
Experience supporting children with autism and complex needs
Experience with alternative communication systems (e.g. PECS, Lámh, AAC)
Additional Information
Interviews are scheduled to take place during the week commencing 29th June 2026.
Appointments are subject to Garda Vetting and occupational health screening.
The position will be in line with Department of Education SNA terms and conditions.
