POST DETAILS
Panel of Applicants:
An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
Abacas Special School is a specialist school for pupils aged 4–18 years with a diagnosis of autism and complex needs. We provide evidence-based, individualised educational and behavioural programmes tailored to the unique strengths and needs of each pupil. Our curriculum includes the Primary School Curriculum, as well as the L1LP/L2LP Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle programmes for post-primary pupils.
We are currently establishing a panel for permanent teaching posts that may arise during the summer, as well as fixed-term positions subject to sanction from the Department of Education and Youth (DEY) and the National Council for Special Education (NCSE).
Abacas is a wonderful place to work, with a highly supportive and collaborative team culture. Staff wellbeing, professional growth, and continuous learning are at the heart of our school community. Teachers benefit from supportive management, experienced colleagues, and access to regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD), mentoring, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
The successful applicant will work closely with a team of highly experienced Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), an on-site Behaviour Practitioner, and a range of visiting multidisciplinary professionals to deliver high-quality, individualised educational programmes for pupils.
Applicants should have significant experience teaching in a similar educational setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to neuroaffirming practice, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team are essential.
Experience in implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans, together with knowledge of Lámh, assistive communication technologies, and the NCSE Relate Framework, would be highly desirable.
A current Teaching Council registration is required.
We welcome applications from enthusiastic, reflective practitioners who are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with autism and complex needs.
