Panel of Applicants:
An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
This is a part-time position of 10 hours per week (including school holidays)
Duties and responsibilites include, but are not limited to:
-Keyholder / general security related duties
-General maintenance & upkeep of the school, ensuring that the facilities/grounds/rooms are maintained to a high standard
-Maintenance and repair of furniture, equipment, bathrooms and fittings
-Upkeep of paintwork and general DIY
-Liaising with suppliers and contractors
- Maintenance of outdoor spaces (grass cutting/hedge trimming/gardening)
- Monitor stocks of fuel and ensure sufficient is available at all times during the school year
- Take the necessary steps to ensure that the school is safe during adverse weather conditions
(salting paths etc.)
- Health and safety responsibilities
- Report (and repair) anything that could be a hazard to the health, safety and welfare of employees and pupils including unblocking toilets
- Be on call for emergencies
Experience and skills required;
- ideally the successful candidate will have general maintenance experience
- a commitment to maintaining high standards and the ability to improve the school environment is required
This role is one of trust and responsibility requiring the successful candidate to be technically competent, hardworking, practical and create well-developed maintenance systems. They must be capable of working on their own initiative.
The successful candidate must be a good communicator with adults and children, professional, confidential and must understand how their role is crucial to providing a physical environment that nurtures and encourages student learning.
The role requires the person to be flexible in their hours of work and be required to work outside of normal hours to safely provide maintenance and to make facilities available.
The position is subject to a 6 month probation period. The position is subject to Garda vetting and strict compliance with school's Child Safeguarding Policy.
