POST DETAILS

Title:
SciFest Programme Coordinator
Description:
Want to make a real impact in STEM education? Join us at SciFest.

At SciFest, we believe that every young person should have the chance to explore science, technology, engineering and maths regardless of their background, ability, or circumstances. For nearly two decades we’ve been making that happen by bringing STEM fairs to second-level schools across Ireland.

From in-school events to regional fairs in third-level colleges, SciFest gives students the chance to showcase their creativity and curiosity. The annual national final gives winning students the opportunity to represent Ireland on the international stage.

We’re now looking to recruit a Programme Coordinator. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to make a significant contribution to the promotion of STEM in second-level schools throughout the country.

The full-time position of SciFest Programme Coordinator is offered initially on a two-year contract basis, subject to the satisfactory completion of a three-month probationary period. The successful candidate will be based in Dublin with opportunities for a hybrid working arrangement. If you’re motivated, organised and passionate about education, this could be your opportunity to help shape the future of STEM education across Ireland.

Key Aspects of the Role
• Reporting to the CEO, supporting the implementation of all strands of the SciFest programme
• Liaising with schools, colleges and teachers planning SciFest events
• With the SciFest team of part-time School Liaison Officers, supporting the implementation of the SciFest@School programme in schools, with a particular focus on DEIS schools
• Supporting teachers and students preparing for participation in SciFest@School
• Recruiting schools and colleges to participate across all strands of the programme
• Developing resources for teachers, students and judges
• Promoting STEM education and engagement at all levels
• As a member of the SciFest management team, contributing to the implementation and development of the SciFest programme as required

Qualifications and Attributes
• Level 8 degree in a STEM discipline with experience in an educational context; preference will be given to candidates with experience of teaching in a second-level school and/or of managing programmes in the education space
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Strong report writing skills
• Excellent IT skills
• Strong team-working skills
• Motivated, flexible, with high levels of initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision
• Good knowledge of the Irish education system, particularly at second level
• Good research skills
• Candidates must have a full, clean driving licence and access to their own car and be prepared to travel to participating schools as required
• Candidates will be required to be Garda vetted
