Module Leader/Instructor in Primary Mathematics Education
Description:
Inspired by the Christian vision, Marino Institute of Education (MIE) is a teaching, learning and research community committed to promoting inclusion and excellence in education. MIE is an associated college of Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education, including initial teacher education programmes.

The Governing Body invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of part-time Module Leader/Instructor.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Marino Institute of Education wishes to recruit an experienced education experts in primary mathematics education for the 2024-25 academic year. Interviews will be held as needed and applications will remain active for up to 12 months.
Applications are welcome from primary mathematics education experts who are interested in leading a module or teaching on a module on the Master in Education Studies (Primary Mathematics) degree programme. The modules are taught fully online in semester 1 and semester 2 of the 2024-2025 academic year. Each module consists of 16 hours of synchronous tuition (on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings) and 9 hours of asynchronous tuition. Candidates may also be required to assess student work and provide detailed feedback to students on the course.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
In order to be considered for the position of Module Leader/Instructor, applicants must demonstrate the following:
• A level-10 qualification (on the National Framework of Qualifications) in mathematics education or a relevant discipline. This is a requirement for a module leader. For a module instructor, a level-9 qualification with progress towards a level-10 qualification may be considered.
• At least 3-years’ experience of teaching mathematics in primary schools
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of mathematics education theories, policy and curricula relevant to primary education
• Knowledge of mathematics education research methods
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
• Strong work ethic.

Desirable
• Experience working in an online environment (including Teams and Zoom)
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals and research conference presentation experience
Candidates must clearly indicate in their application form how they meet each of the pre-requisite skills and experience outlined for the programme.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Master in Education Studies (Primary Mathematics) is one of the taught masters in MIE and it is accredited by Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin. On this programme we are creating the next generation of leaders in primary mathematics education and students on this programme have shown prior interest and competence in teaching mathematics. Module leaders need to educate and inspire these students so that they are ready for leadership roles in primary mathematics. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Preparing stimulating, informed and interactive online classes related to the module. These include:
o Contemporary Issues in the Teaching and Learning of Primary Mathematics
o Inclusive Primary Mathematics Education
o Differentiation and Challenge in Primary Mathematics
o Mathematics Learning Difficulties and Interventions
• Supplementing synchronous and asynchronous online classes with curated resources on the virtual learning environment, Moodle.
• Uploading asynchronous classes to Moodle.
• Designing/Modifying assessments for students
• Grading students’ work and providing detailed feedback
• Ensure that students adhere to ethical, legislative and policy guidelines of the Institute when conducting research
• Submitting grade reports as per programme requirements
• Liaising with the programme leader
• Completing training required by the Human Resources team in MIE, such as GDPR
training.
