This is an Acting Teaching Principal position and it commences on 17/06/2024.
The Valley National School is a rural, welcoming and inclusive school under the patronage of the Archbishop of Tuam. There are two mainstream teachers, one full time and one part time special education teachers, one special needs assistant and one part-time secretary and caretaker.
Roles and responsibilities for the post are set out in the domains of Leadership & Management as specified in the Circular 0044/2019:
1) Teaching and Learning
2) Managing the Organisation
3) Leading School Development
4) Developing Leadership Capacity
In addition, the following knowledge, competencies and skills are desirable:
• Proven leadership skills, including policy development and implementation and prioritising, planning and organising the workload
• Organisational capabilities in managing school resources
• An in-depth knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and previous teaching experience across a range of classes (multi-grade teaching experience is preferable)
• Proven ability to manage and work collaboratively with all staff members and the Board of Management.
• An ability to foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, the Board of Management and wider school community.
• Understanding and knowledge of Special Educational Needs, inclusion and diversity in education
• An understanding and a commitment to the school’s Catholic ethos and an ability to support and promote school / Parish links
