POST DETAILS
Title:
Advisor Irish Sign Language (ISL) Nationwide
Description:
The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) is an independent statutory body set up to improve the delivery of education services to persons with special educational needs arising from disabilities with particular emphasis on children.
NCSE support services are delivered through our regional teams comprising special educational needs organisers (SENOs) who interact with parents and schools; advisors who provide continuing professional development (CPD) and in-school support to schools in the area of special educational needs; visiting teachers (VTs) who provide support to children and young people who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Blind/Visually Impaired, their families and teachers; Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Behaviour Practitioners who provide CPD and in school support to schools to build school capacity to support students with special education needs; ISL – Specialist Classroom Support (SCS) who provide intensive in-class communication support for individual students;and head office personnel.
The Department of Education in conjunction with the NCSE is conscious of the need to provide support for schools in the use of ISL across all aspects of school life to ensure that they are truly inclusive for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH), particularly for those students whose primary means of communication is ISL. The new post of Advisor (ISL) in the NCSE will meet this need and support the delivery of a continuum of support for children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing to access education through ISL from the point of diagnosis by a relevant professional through to the end of post-primary education.
NCSE is now seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to form panels for ISL Advisors throughout the country.
