An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
St Mary’s Special School is a special school for pupils from 4-18 who have a Mild General Learning Difficulty. We will also have 4 Autism specific classes for children with ASD/Mild/Mod and one Autism class specifically for Students with Autism and a Mild General Learning difficulty.
We have 2 permanent vacancies, 1 fixed term vacancy, and a 0.5 Job share position available
CRITERIA FOR APPLICATION
Essential:
Candidates are required to have minimum qualifications as per Department of Education and Skills Guidelines.
Experience in working with children/young adults with Special Educational Needs. In particular MGLD/ModGLD, ADHD, Autism and Behaviours of concern and an understanding of positive behaviour support strategies.
Desirable:
Experience of working in a special school/special class setting and/or other relevant qualifications/courses e.g. QQI Level 5 in SEN, first aid or any other relevant CPD
It would also be desirable for candidates to have worked in a special school setting and have experience of working with pupils with ASD, Communication Difficulties, PECs, Lamh, ISL, Behaviours of Concern and pupils who require intimate care (toilet training and changing nappies) and administration of medication.
An ability and willingness to work in collaboration with other members of the school community as a team, including ability to support the class team in pupil progress reviews, contribution to IEP planning and Pupil Support Plans is essential.
The ability to work in high care needs environments and to support pupils through the development of behaviour modification plans in conjunction with the Class Teacher is desirable.
To understand the dimensions of escalated behaviours and to suggest and contribute ideas to managing these safely with the dignity of the child and their peers in mind.
Ability to work flexibly and on own initiative to solve day to day issues.
