Job Title: Lecturer on the Early Childhood Studies Masters and the Inclusive Education and Special Educational Needs (SEN) Masters

Portobello Institute wish to appoint a Lecturer on the Early Childhood Studies Masters and the Inclusive Education and SEN Masters, on a fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in the related fields of Educational Psychology, Inclusive and Special Education, Early Education and Research. The Department of Early Years and Montessori, is seeking an innovative and experienced candidate to teach on the Postgraduate programmes.

The Person:

You believe, like us in the power of education to change the path of a person’s life. The person appointed will have duties specific to the area of Early Education and Inclusive Education and SEN. He/she will be required to contribute a wide range of work within the department including lecturing and tutorial sessions all online. They will be involved in Postgraduate Research supervision, deliver, and development of modules (as necessary) across both programmes. This role involves some administrative responsibility, marking, cross moderation and standardisation of grades across both programmes, so experience in this area is essential. Commitment to high-quality teaching and learning in a student – centred environment is important. Enthusiasm for a multi-disciplinary environment is desired. The appointed person will exhibit evidence of strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and be willing to engage with continued scholarly activity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Lecturing
• Tutorial work
• Managing and updating the Moodle platform - ePortobello (where required)
• Research support and involvement
• Examining and marking content
• Providing feedback on draft submissions
• Developing course content
• Attending meetings and Examination boards
• Supporting online students via email and Microsoft Teams

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

a) MA qualification in a relevant area 2:1 or Distinction
b) Experience of working in the sector
c) A minimum of 3 years relevant experience lecturing at higher education
d) Evidence of a research profile, and experience of supervising graduate research Students
e) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a capacity to work on their own initiative and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
f) Evidence of competence in on-line education, blended, distance and flexible learning routes.
