An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

St. Cecilia's is a school for students with moderate, severe and profound learning disability and autism aged between 4 and 18 years. It is essential that candidates should have significant experience of working in a special school specifically with pupils with complex physical and health care needs, communication difficulties and varying degrees of intellectual disability. Candidates must demonstrate practical experience with the management of challenging behaviour and promotion of positive behaviour strategies. Manual handling experience is also essential. An interest in TEACCH, augmentative communication and lifeskills would also be beneficial. In addition to accessing the curriculum, duties include assisting with eating and intimate care, dressing, assisting in the swimming pool (weekly), horse riding and other educational outings. Candidates must be able to work well within a team and on his/her own initiative, display a strong worth ethic, be flexible and demonstrate a willingness to avail of further training. Successful candidates will be expected to respect the confidentiality of the students at all times.
