This SNA post is very specifically to support communication, through Irish Sign Language (ISL), for a pupil in our school. The successful candidate should have a high proficiency in ISL in order to support the student’s needs, and sufficient language skills to support communication between teacher and pupil, pupil and teacher, and all other members of the school community and the pupil in question. The duties will also relate to supporting communication in sign language between teachers, staff, students who use ISL and those who don’t throughout the school. The duties will include the teaching of ISL to other staff members as part of Croke Park Hours and working with teaching & SNA colleagues to develop relevant programmes, assessment tools and policies.
This position is that of SNA, a Department of Education & Skills (DES) employee, with all usual SNA terms and conditions attaching. The successful candidate will be placed on the appropriate point of the SNA salary scale, having due regard to their experience. Sufficiently high proficiency in ISL and good communication skills as an interpreter are the essential requirements for applicants of this post.
