St. Joseph's is a special primary school which caters for pupils between the age of four and eighteen years who have a moderate general learning disability. Of the 72 pupils currently enrolled 41 have ASD along with their intellectual disability. An eclectic approach incorporating autism sensitive teaching approaches is used to accommodate individual learning styles. The Principal has responsibility for leading and managing a large staff: 13 teachers, 3 subject teachers, 27 special needs assistants, bus escorts, nurse, secretary, caretaker and housekeepers along with administrative duties associated with multi-disciplinary teams and health professionals. The Junior Cycle Level 1 and 2 programmes are delivered in the Senior school. The school is under the patronage of Ability West.
