Guidance Counsellor at Kilkenny College:

A Voluntary Secondary, Co-educational, boarding and day school with a Church of Ireland Ethos. Kilkenny College has an enrolment of 880 students (September 2017) of whom 436 are weekly boarders (female and male) and 444 are day pupils (female and male)

Position:

Guidance Counsellor (Full-Time)

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree qualification, Post-graduate Diploma in Guidance Counselling

3 years’ experience working in a Second Level School.

An ability to work in pastoral and guidance support of students who are boarding in addition to day students is an essential requirement for this position. This will require availability beyond the normal school day.

Responsibilities include:

Leading the Third Level Application process for all 6th Form students each year including applications to institutions outside Ireland.

Leading the DARE and RACE application programme as required each year.

Leading the Subject Option selection process for students entering 2nd and 4th Form each year.

Leading the subject option selection process for new students entering the school (Forms 2- 5) and meeting with those students and parents.

Working in co-operation with relevant subject departments and parents in change of Option subjects and change of levels in Core subjects.

Leading the provision of pastoral care for students within the Guidance and Counselling team.

Availability to parents/guardians of students in all years to discuss matters of pastoral care, counselling and guidance advice as may be required.

Attendance and participation in all Care Team meetings and Discipline meetings which form part of the College pastoral care and discipline structures.

Organisation of the 4th Form / Transition Year Work Experience Placement Programme each year.

Linkage with any external agencies, bodies, organisations and individuals as may be relevant to support the provision of the necessary professional advice, diagnosis or support for students while enrolled at Kilkenny College.

Linkage with any external agencies, bodies, organisations or professional individuals who may be requested to present, lead or coordinate actions, course, activities to promote the wellbeing of students while enrolled at Kilkenny College.

Availability to teach pastoral related courses in Junior and or Senior cycle such as Social Personal and Health Education and Career Guidance.
