An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

Abacas Special School is a multi-denominational, co-educational school that caters for children with an autism spectrum disorder and complex needs. Students range from 4 - 18 years of age, have a wide variety of needs and abilities and come from a broad catchment area. Abacas is situated in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght and shares a site with St. Kevin's Boys' and Girls' National Schools. The school currently has 3 classes, each with 6 students. However, in response to the significant demand for placements in specialised ASD schools, there will be 5 classes and a total enrolment of 30 students from September 2017. Abacas is under the patronage of Autism Ireland.

At Abacas, we use a range of evidence-based interventions, including TEACCH, ABA, PECS and Lámh. Each student has a comprehensive Individualised Education Plan encompassing curriculum-based work as well as individual behavioural, communication and independence goals. Teachers at Abacas follow the Primary School Curriculum and the Junior Certificate Level 2 Curriculum.

Experience of working in a special education environment is desirable.
